Dear Anxious Person,
Do not use your precious mental energy to piece back together the things of the past. Don’t even consider the things that have happened to you. Replace it with the new. Let the new spring forth. Let the present spring forth. Let your purpose spring forth. I’m also going to do some impossible things that will blow your mind.
Next month I will be starting a series that focuses on specific shifts in perspective, and tools that are helpful in maintaining an anxiety free mindset.
There are so many things to say about this topic. Sometimes when you think about the past it can fill you with anxiety about a situation that is long gone. These thoughts can also be triggered when you see a person, place, or thing that brings up bad memories of an anxious time in your life. I had this experience a few months ago when I drove through a place that I used to go frequently. Seeing the surroundings brought up all of the terrible memories of the anxiety I once felt when I was there. I immediately went to prayer. Prayer is a powerful weapon. As I prayed I began to remember very specific scriptures. Meditating on the word instead of focusing on my mental turmoil reminded me of who God is, what He can do, who I am in Christ, and the power that He has endowed me with to overcome anything. You must come into His presence knowing that He is able. You must seek God with the mindset that He knows all, and can even shift your mindset according to your faith.
When you do this, you begin to realize that the past does not control you. You realize that God is strong, He is all powerful, He is mighty, and a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). Cast all of your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). He loves you with an everlasting love that supersedes everything in the past, present, or future. Know who your God is. Get to know Him. Trust Him. Trust that He can heal that broken part of you that reacts when faced with something that once tormented you. Put it in His hands, and ask Him to show you how you can overcome it for good. When you trust Him with that part of you, you are blessed beyond measure. He definitely answers those prayers. It is possible. If He did it for me, then He an do it for you. There are many things that used to bother me that no longer affect me anymore because I pray those prayers. In time He shows you. He shows the root of it all, and how to move past it. Throughout your walk with Christ He will continue to show you things. He will continue to dig up corrupt seeds that were planted long ago. He will continuously heal and transform you. Let Him make you over.
“Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.
